Hurricane Michael: A Media Literacy Project

In the fall of 2018, Girls Inc. of Bay County was awarded a grant by the Comcast Foundation to provide an advanced version of the Media Literacy program.  The focus was to have girls learn how to create their own positive messaging social media campaign and short video PSAs to combat all the negative messaging that girls and women encounter on a daily basis.  Then Hurricane Michael hit and changed everything.

As a mixture of girls from town and the beach gathered at the Beach Center in the early days following the storm they decided they wanted to change the focus on program to make a mini-documentary about the aftermath of the hurricane.   The project would carry them through to the middle of summer 2019.   This is there video, Hurricane Michael: The Damage That Was Done
