Dr. Carrie Baker was blessed with a great childhood. Her mother was the kind of teacher who asked each student what they had eaten for breakfast. If the answer was “nothing” Carrie’s mother would direct her daughter to share her homemade egg sandwich with the hungry child. Carrie believes her mother had more confidence in her than she had in herself. “Mom had all kind of confidence in me and I never doubted it.” Carrie completed her undergrad studies in political science and public administration and worked as a legislative aide in Washington D.C. After grad school she took a job teaching middle school students. She was bothered by the fact that too many girls have to become adults too soon. Girls became her passion. Ultimately Carrie earned a Doctor of Education degree from FSU, studying educational leadership. She connected with the Girls Inc. mission. “With a place like Girls Inc., girls get a chance to have a voice.” Carrie’s giving philosophy is rooted in this verse: to whom much is given, much will be required. Carrie Baker, Ed.D is a Champion for Girls because she personally gives more than $1,000 each year in support of Girls Inc. of Bay County. Thank you, Dr. Baker for being a Champion for Girls!
